About Us:

Great Outdoors, owned by brothers Chad Zastrow and JB Hemmrich, started in 1997 as a lawncare management company servicing resident and commercial properties. In November 1999, we started servicing a 20 acre apartment complex in Bowling Green, KY. As part of the apartment contract, we were no longer just grass cutters, but landscapers. We designed, installed, and maintained all of the apartments landscape. As a result of adding all these new services, our equipment and knowledge of plants became more abundant and the business grew like a weed.

Just when we thought we knew everything about the green industry, our mother read an article in the paper, in July 2003. All it said was, "Garden Center business for sale" and the phone number. We called, set up a time to meet the owner and within one week the Great Outdoors Store appeared at 631 W. Main, Hendersonville.

We since have taken the plunge into ponds and waterfalls, stone/paved patios, retaining walls, low- voltage lighting and retail etc. Chad has an architectural degree and also owned a pest control/termite business for many years. JB has also been educated in design and horticulture.
